Biography:
Born on June 17, 1956, Kelly Lee Curtis comes from a lineage deeply rooted in Hollywood. The daughter of iconic actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, she was destined for the limelight. Her sister, Jamie Lee Curtis, also followed suit, becoming an actress herself. Kelly's Hungarian-Jewish grandfather, and Danish great-grandparents on her mother's side, added a rich cultural blend to her heritage, while her German and Scots-Irish lineage further enriched her diverse background.
Kelly made her silver screen debut at a young age, appearing in the action/adventure film 'The Vikings' alongside her parents and Hollywood legends Kirk Douglas and Ernest Borgnine. Following her parents' divorce in 1962, Kelly continued to forge her own path. After graduating from Skidmore College with a degree in Business in 1978, she briefly worked as a stockbroker before being drawn back to her true passion – acting.
Kelly trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, where her talents shone brightly in productions such as 'Say Goodnight, Gracie'. Her performance garnered praise from critics, with the Los Angeles Times noting that she "delivers a touching monologue that would have been the heart of another and better play."
Kelly's acting career took flight with notable roles in movies like 'Magic Sticks' (1987) where she played Shirley alongside George Kranz, and 'The Devil's Daughter' (1991), in which she starred as Miriam Kreisl. She ventured into television as well, joining the first season of the crime/action series 'The Sentinel' (1996) where she portrayed Lieutenant Carolyn Plummer alongside Richard Burgi and Garett Maggart.
In addition to her acting prowess, Kelly has lent her expertise to various film projects as an assistant on films such as 'Freaky Friday' (2003), 'Christmas with the Kranks' (2004), and 'You Again' (2010). She married playwright/producer Scott Morfee in 1989, with whom she collaborated on his play with music, 'Shout and Twist.'
Kelly and her husband have called New York's Long Island home since the early 1990s. Despite coming from Hollywood royalty and having a successful career in acting and film production, Kelly Lee Curtis has forged her own path with determination, grace, and talent.
