Biography:
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Kathleen Doyle Bates' passion for acting began at a young age. She pursued her dream by studying theatre at Southern Methodist University before making the move to New York City. It wasn't long before she landed minor stage roles and eventually made her on-screen debut in Taking Off (1971). Kathy's talent did not go unnoticed, as she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Play in 1983 for 'night, Mother.
Her breakthrough came when she starred as Annie Wilkes in the psychological thriller Misery (1990), which won her an Academy Award for Best Actress. This role marked a turning point in Kathy's career and opened doors to more significant roles in films like Dolores Claiborne (1995), The Waterboy (1998), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), Titanic (1997), Primary Colors (1998), About Schmidt (2002), and Richard Jewell (2019).
