Biography:
Jorge García, born on April 28th, 1973, is an American actor and comedian with a height of 5' 11½" (1,82 m). Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, Jorge came to public attention through his role as Hector Lopez in the television show Becker. He gained further fame for portraying Hugo "Hurley" Reyes in the hit series Lost. Besides acting, Jorge also delights audiences with his stand-up comedy performances.
His parents are Dora Mesa, a Cuban-born professor, and Humberto Garcia, a Chilean-born doctor. Raised in Southern California, Jorge attended San Clemente High School. As a senior, he was awarded the prestigious title of "Triton of the Year," an honor given to the most outstanding graduating senior at his school.
After graduating from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1995 with a major in Communication Studies, Jorge's big break came when he was cast as Hugo Reyes on Lost. The producers specifically created the character for him after seeing him perform on Curb Your Enthusiasm the night before casting began. Jorge also appeared on Celebrity Poker Showdown and participated in Russian Roulette on Game Show Network.
In 2012, Jorge starred in the movie When We Were Pirates, where he played a man named Jason who, along with his friends, discovers that their childhood love of playing pirates helps them overcome challenges later in life. His acting journey also includes a blog about Lost called Dispatches from the Island and hosting a weekly podcast, Geronimo Jack's Beard, during the show's run.
Jorge was featured on the front cover of Weezer's album Hurley, released on September 10th, 2010. The album is named after his Lost character. He also made guest appearances in several TV shows like How I Met Your Mother and Mr. Sunshine. From January 2012 to May 2012, Jorge portrayed Dr. Diego Soto, an Alcatraz expert, on the FOX series Alcatraz. Although the show was canceled due to dropping viewership, Jorge's talent shone through his various roles. In 2013, he took on the role of Steve Wozniak in a parody film produced for Funny or Die website.
