Biography:
Jonathan Edward Bernthal, often called by his nickname Jon, is a talented American actor born on September 20th, 1976. He first gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Shane Walsh in the hit AMC horror drama series, The Walking Dead (2010-2012; 2018). This role established him as a star in the world of television.
In 2016, Bernthal stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher. He appeared in the second season of the popular Daredevil series and later starred in his own spin-off series titled The Punisher (2017-2019). His role as The Punisher will continue in the upcoming revival series Daredevil: Born Again (2025-present).
Bernthal's exceptional acting skills have led him to take on a variety of roles in films. In 2013, he featured in Snitch and Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. He also played key roles in Fury (2014), Sicario (2015), The Accountant (2016), Baby Driver (2017), Wind River (2017), Widows (2018), Ford v Ferrari (2019), and King Richard (2021). His impressive filmography continued with The Many Saints of Newark (2021) and Origin (2023). In 2025, he will reprise his role as The Punisher in the sequel to The Accountant.
Most recently, Bernthal won a Primetime Emmy Award for his recurring guest role as Michael Berzatto, a restaurant owner battling drug addiction, in the critically acclaimed series The Bear (2022-present).
