Biography:
John Saxon, born Carmine Orrico, was an American actor and martial artist who graced the screen for over six decades with a prolific career spanning more than 200 projects. From humble beginnings in Brooklyn, New York, his passion for acting led him to study under legendary tutor Stella Adler before embarking on his journey in Hollywood.
Saxon began his career as a contract actor for Universal Pictures, featuring in films such as Rock, Pretty Baby (1956) and Portrait in Black (1961). As the 1970s rolled in, he transitioned into character roles, often playing police officers, detectives, and other law enforcement officials in a variety of movies. This versatile actor was well-known for his work in horror flicks like Black Christmas (1974), Dario Argento's Tenebrae (1982), and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).
However, Saxon's talents didn't end with horror. He co-starred alongside martial arts legend Bruce Lee in the iconic film Enter the Dragon (1973) and appeared in several westerns including Death of a Gunfighter (1969), Joe Kidd (1972), and the thrilling adventure Raid on Entebbe (1977). In the 1990s, he continued to act in smaller roles in movies such as Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) and From Dusk till Dawn (1996).
Sadly, John Saxon passed away in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on July 25, 2020, after a battle with pneumonia. His memorable performances and dedication to his craft will undoubtedly be missed by fans and admirers alike.
