Biography:
Born in Sacramento, California, Jessica Michelle Chastain discovered her passion for acting at a young age. She took to the stage as Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998 and continued to hone her craft by studying at the prestigious Juilliard School. After signing with television producer John Wells, she appeared in various TV series, including Law & Order: Trial by Jury, and took on roles in theater productions of Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard and Oscar Wilde's Salome.
Chastain made her film debut in the drama Jolene (2008) but truly garnered attention for her performances in Take Shelter (2011) and Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (2011). She earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in The Help (2011), playing a fiery aspiring socialite. In 2012, she won a Golden Globe Award for her role as Maya in the thriller Zero Dark Thirty, which also landed her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
