Biography:
Born as Chan Kong-sang on April 7, 1954, Jackie Chan grew up in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong, with his parents who were refugees from the Chinese Civil War. As a big baby, he was nicknamed "Paopao," or cannonball, and spent his early years within the grounds of the French Consul's residence in the area.
Chan started his acting journey at Nah-Hwa Primary School on Hong Kong Island but failed his first year, leading to his parents' decision to withdraw him from school. In 1960, when his father moved to Canberra, Australia, Chan was enrolled in the China Drama Academy, a Peking Opera School run by Master Yu Jim-yuen. For ten years, he trained rigorously in martial arts and acrobatics, becoming an exceptional performer. He eventually became part of the Seven Little Fortunes, a select performance group consisting of the school's best students. Chan adopted the stage name Yuen Lo to honor his master.
Alongside fellow group members Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, he forged strong friendships and later came to be known as the Three Brothers or Three Dragons. At age 17, Chan worked as a stuntman in Bruce Lee's films Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon, using the stage name Chan Yuen Lung. A year later, he landed his first starring role in Little Tiger of Canton, which was released with limited success in Hong Kong in 1973.
Throughout his illustrious career spanning over five decades, Jackie Chan has become an international icon known for his unique blend of martial arts, comedy, and innovative stunts. Having appeared in more than 100 films, he has received stars on both the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As a talented Cantopop and Mandopop artist, Chan has also released numerous albums and sung theme songs for his films.
