She's appeared in a mix of mid-budget and period films before transitioning to blockbusters and franchises.
Her early work in films such as Seven (1995), Emma (1996), Sliding Doors (1998), and A Perfect Murder (1998) caught the attention of critics and audiences alike. However, it was her role as Viola de Lesseps in the historical romance Shakespeare in Love (1998) that brought her global recognition and earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. She went on to star alongside Matt Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), and rose comedically alongside Jack Black in Shallow Hal (2001).
In 2003, Gwyneth made her West End debut in David Auburn's play Proof, earning a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress. She later reprised her role in the 2005 film adaptation of the same name. After becoming a mother in 2004, Gwyneth reduced her acting workload but still made intermittent appearances in films such as Two Lovers (2008), Country Strong (2010), and Contagion (2011).
Her career took an exciting turn when she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Pepper Potts opposite Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. From Iron Man in 2008 to Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Gwyneth became a beloved figure in the superhero franchise. She also made a name for herself on television as Holly Holliday, a recurring guest role in the Fox musical series Glee (2010-2011), which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
In 2019-2020, Gwyneth starred as Payton Hobart in the Netflix series The Politician, showcasing her versatility yet again. After a successful career in acting, she took a break to focus on other ventures.
Apart from her acting prowess, Gwyneth is also known for her work with beauty brands and her lifestyle company Goop, which she founded and leads as CEO. Despite facing criticism for promoting pseudoscience, Gwyneth continues to expand her empire. She's even ventured into the literary world, authoring several cookbooks. In 2009, she received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for Brown Bear and Friends. As if that wasn't enough, she hosted the documentary series The Goop Lab for Netflix in 2020.
