Gillian Leigh Anderson, an American actress, writer and activist, is best known for her remarkable performances in various iconic roles throughout her career. Born in Chicago, she was raised initially in London before moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan. She made her start on the stage in New York City and achieved international recognition through her work as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the groundbreaking sci-fi series The X-Files (1993-2002; 2016-2018).
Anderson's film work is equally impressive, with standout performances in dramas such as The Mighty Celt (2005), The Last King of Scotland (2006), Shadow Dancer (2012), and Viceroy's House (2017). She also appeared in the X-Files films Fight the Future (1998) and I Want to Believe (2008).
