Biography:
Elizabeth Victoria Montgomery, born to actor Robert Montgomery, carved a remarkable five-decade long career in both films and television. She is most fondly remembered for her starring role as Samantha Stephens in the beloved TV series Bewitched.
Her acting journey began when she appeared on her father's TV show, Robert Montgomery Presents, in the 1950s. However, it was her enchanting portrayal of a magical housewife in Bewitched during the 1960s that truly catapulted her to stardom. This role brought her five Primetime Emmy Award nominations and four Golden Globe Award nods, showcasing her immense talent on screen.
Following the end of Bewitched in 1972, Montgomery continued to captivate audiences through various television films. One such project saw her tackle two significant roles - Ellen Harrod in A Case of Rape and Lizzie Borden in The Legend of Lizzie Borden (1975). These powerful performances earned her even more Emmy Award nominations, proving her versatility as an actress.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Montgomery's personal life was also marked by love and commitment. She married actor-producer-director William Asher, with whom she shared three children. In 1993, she tied the knot with fellow actor Robert Foxworth, spending two decades together before they officially became a married couple.
Unfortunately, in May 1995, just eight weeks after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, Elizabeth Montgomery passed away, leaving behind an indelible legacy in Hollywood history.
