Born on July 18, 1961, Elizabeth McGovern is an accomplished American actress who has graced both the big screen and television. Her journey into acting began in her youth when she was studying at Juilliard, a prestigious performing arts conservatory in New York City. Unexpectedly, she was offered a part in her first film, "Ordinary People," where she portrayed the girlfriend of Timothy Hutton's troubled teenager character.
Her education as an actress continued at the esteemed American Conservatory Theatre and The Juilliard School. As she honed her skills, Elizabeth started appearing in theater productions, with her first appearances being Off-Broadway before transitioning to larger, more famous theaters. Her dedication to her craft was rewarded in 1981 when she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Evelyn Nesbit in "Ragtime."
In 1984, Elizabeth starred alongside acting legend Robert De Niro in Sergio Leone's gangster epic, "Once Upon a Time in America," where she played Deborah Gelly, the romantic interest of De Niro's character. She continued to captivate audiences with her performances, including her role as Mickey Rourke's girlfriend in Walter Hill's "Johnny Handsome" in 1989.
