Biography:

Born in Liverpool on June 21, 1964, David Mark Morrissey is a multi-talented English actor and director. Growing up in the vibrant Kensington and Knotty Ash neighborhoods, young David discovered his passion for acting at the Everyman Youth Theatre alongside fellow talents Ian Hart, Mark and Stephen McGann, and Cathy Tyson.

At just 18 years old, Morrissey and Hart were cast as lead roles in the TV series "One Summer" (1983), which garnered them recognition throughout the country. After completing the series, David pursued further education at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before honing his skills with the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.

Throughout the 1990s, Morrissey took on a variety of roles, often portraying policemen and soldiers but also stepping into memorable characters such as Bradley Headstone in "Our Mutual Friend" (1998) and Christopher Finzi in "Hilary and Jackie" (1998). He continued to impress with film roles in "Some Voices" (2000) and "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" (2001), which led him to critical acclaim for his work in "State of Play" (2003) and "The Deal" (2003).

Despite facing some criticism for his roles in "Basic Instinct 2" (2006) and "The Reaping" (2007), Morrissey continued to shine in leading roles in films such as "Sense and Sensibility" (2008), "Red Riding" (2009), and "Five Days" (2010). He also appeared in "Nowhere Boy" (2009) and "Centurion" (2010) before producing and starring in the crime drama "Thorne" (2010).

In 2008, David returned to his acting roots with a stage performance in Neil LaBute's "In a Dark Dark House." He later took on the titular role in the Liverpool Everyman's production of "Macbeth" in 2011. As a director, Morrissey has helmed short films and directed BBC dramas such as "Sweet Revenge" (2001) and "Passer By" (2004). His feature film debut, "Don't Worry About Me," premiered at the 2009 London Film Festival before airing on BBC television in March 2010.

David is married to renowned novelist Esther Freud and has three children. He also lends his support to numerous charities as a patron.
