David Andrew Leo Fincher, born on August 28, 1962, in Denver, Colorado, is an American film director who has made a name for himself directing mostly thriller films. His impressive body of work has garnered him 40 Academy Award nominations and three Best Director nods.
At a young age, Fincher developed a passion for filmmaking and began honing his craft by directing music videos. His early successes include Madonna's "Express Yourself" (1989) and "Vogue" (1990), both of which won him MTV Video Music Awards for Best Direction. He made his feature film debut with the sci-fi thriller Alien 3 (1992). While it received mixed reviews, his following films, Seven (1995) and The Game (1997), demonstrated his growing prowess in the genre.
Fincher's big break came with Fight Club (1999), a film that initially underperformed but went on to become a cult classic. In 2002, he returned to prominence with the thriller Panic Room, starring Jodie Foster. Over the years, Fincher has continued to impress with films like Zodiac (2007), The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), and Mank (2020).
