Biography:

Born on May 25, 1976 in Cork, Ireland, Cillian Murphy has made a name for himself as a versatile and talented actor. His career began with his debut performance in Enda Walsh's play Disco Pigs in 1996, which he reprised in the screen adaptation in 2001. Throughout his early years in film, Murphy showcased his range through roles in the horror film 28 Days Later (2002), the dark comedy Intermission (2003), the thriller Red Eye (2005), and the Irish war drama The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006).

One of Murphy's most notable roles came in 2005 when he played a transgender Irish woman in the comedy-drama Breakfast on Pluto, earning him a Golden Globe Award nomination. Over the years, his collaborations with filmmaker Christopher Nolan have been fruitful, as he starred as Dr. Jonathan Crane / Scarecrow in The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005–2012) and appeared in Inception (2010), Dunkirk (2017), and the biographical epic Oppenheimer (2023).

In 2013, Murphy took on the role of Tommy Shelby in the BBC period drama series Peaky Blinders, which gained him significant prominence. His performance in this gritty crime drama ran for nine seasons until 2022. In 2020, he starred in the horror sequel A Quiet Place Part II, further proving his ability to take on a variety of roles across different genres.

In addition to his work in film and television, Murphy has also been recognized for his achievements in theater. He won the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Actor and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance for his one-man play Misterman in 2011.
