Canadian actor Christopher Heyerdahl, born on September 18, 1963, in British Columbia, has built an impressive career portraying diverse and captivating characters across film, television, and stage. Of Norwegian and Scottish descent, Heyerdahl's father emigrated from Norway to Canada in the 1950s, and he himself speaks fluent Norwegian, having studied at the University of Oslo.
Primarily known for his role as "Swede" in AMC's post-Civil War drama Hell on Wheels, Heyerdahl has also made an indelible mark on popular shows like Stargate Atlantis, Supernatural, Sanctuary, and True Blood. In the former, he brought to life the enigmatic Wraith commander Todd and the chilling Halling. In Supernatural, he portrayed the tormented demon Alastair, while in Sanctuary, he appeared as H.P. Lovecraft and the elusive John Druitt.
Heyerdahl's stage experience began early with his membership in the Young Company at the Stratford Festival in 1989 and 1990. His career took a leap forward with his role as Leonid in an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? titled "The Thirteenth Floor." He continued to showcase his versatility through various roles, including a punk in Cadavres (2009) and Zor-El in the television series Smallville.
In 2009, Heyerdahl starred as Marcus, a powerful vampire from the Volturi family, in New Moon - an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's second book in her Twilight Saga. He reprised this role in both parts of Breaking Dawn, which were adaptations of the fourth book in the series.
