Biography:
Born on August 15th, 1972 in California, Benjamin Géza Affleck is an esteemed actor and filmmaker with a prolific career spanning several decades. Affleck's early beginnings started at the tender age of twelve when he starred in PBS's educational series, The Voyage of the Mimi, which would be the start of his lifelong journey in entertainment.
His talent was further recognized with roles in cult-classic comedies such as Dazed and Confused (1993) and several Kevin Smith films including Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), and Dogma (1999). However, it was his groundbreaking collaboration with childhood friend Matt Damon that would truly propel him into the spotlight. The duo not only starred together but co-wrote the powerful script for Good Will Hunting (1997) which earned them both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Screenplay.
Affleck then went on to establish himself as one of Hollywood's leading men, taking on roles in blockbuster films such as Armageddon (1998), Pearl Harbor (2001), The Sum of All Fears, and Changing Lanes - all released in 2002. Despite a minor career slump with his appearances in Daredevil (2003) and Gigli (2003), he bounced back with a critically acclaimed performance in Hollywoodland (2006) which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor.
His directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone (2007), received widespread praise and solidified his status as a multi-talented artist. His subsequent works include the crime drama The Town (2010) where he also starred and directed, and the political thriller Argo (2012). These films were not only critical successes but also commercial hits, earning him multiple accolades, including Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards for Best Director and Best Picture for Argo.
Affleck continued to impress audiences with his roles in psychological thriller Gone Girl (2014), the action-adventure film Triple Frontier (2019), and the sports drama The Way Back (2020). In 2016, he took on one of Hollywood's most iconic superhero roles by portraying Batman in the DC Extended Universe.
Apart from his illustrious acting and directing career, Affleck is also a co-founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative - a nonprofit organization providing grantmaking and advocacy support for communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a dedicated supporter of the Democratic Party, he uses his platform to champion various social causes.
Affleck, along with Matt Damon, is also a co-owner of Pearl Street Films - a production company responsible for creating thought-provoking and engaging content. This accomplished artist continues to leave an indelible mark in Hollywood, both in front of and behind the camera.
