Biography:
Born on April 16th, 1996 in Miami to British parents, Anya-Josephine Marie Taylor-Joy grew up in Buenos Aires and London before embarking on an acting career at the young age of 16 when she left school. Her journey began with minor television roles, but her big break came when she was cast as the lead in the chilling horror film, The Witch (2015).
As her career progressed, Taylor-Joy showcased her versatility by taking on a variety of roles. She starred in the thriller Split (2016) and its sequel, Glass (2019), the dark comedy Thoroughbreds (2017), and portrayed Emma Woodhouse in the period drama Emma (2020). In 2019, she joined the cast of the popular television crime drama series Peaky Blinders, which ran until 2022.
Taylor-Joy's performance as Beth Harmon in the period drama miniseries The Queen's Gambit (2020) brought her international recognition and several prestigious awards. Her portrayal of a young chess prodigy earned her a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.
In recent years, the actress has continued to expand her repertoire with roles in the horror film Last Night in Soho (2021), action films The Northman (2022) and The Gorge (2025), and the black comedy The Menu (2022). She lent her voice to Princess Peach in the animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) and portrayed Imperator Furiosa in the apocalyptic film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024).
