Biography:
Anne Hampton Potts, born on October 28, 1952, is an accomplished American actress with a diverse and impressive career spanning several decades. She first gained attention for her role in the 1978 film Corvette Summer, earning herself a Golden Globe nomination. Her talent was further recognized when she won a Genie Award for her performance in Heartaches in 1981.
Over the years, Potts has become synonymous with iconic roles in memorable films such as Ghostbusters (1984), Pretty in Pink (1986), Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986), Who's Harry Crumb? (1989), and Ghostbusters II (1989). Her work in the Ghostbusters franchise continued with Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021, as well as an upcoming film, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, set for release in 2024.
Potts' vocal talents have also been put to great use in the Toy Story franchise, where she brought life to Bo Peep in the first, second, and fourth films (1995, 1999, and 2019), as well as various Disney video games.
In addition to her film successes, Potts has left an indelible mark on television with her portrayal of Mary Jo Jackson Shively in the CBS sitcom Designing Women from 1986-1993. She received a Primetime Emmy nomination for her work as Dana Palladino on the CBS sitcom Love & War (1993-1995). Potts also portrayed teacher Louanne Johnson in the ABC drama Dangerous Minds for one season (1996-1997) and earned Screen Actors Guild Award nominations in 1998 and 1999 for her role as Mary-Elizabeth "M.E" Sims in the Lifetime drama series Any Day Now (1998-2002).
More recently, Potts has appeared in TV shows like GCB (2012), The Fosters (2013-2018), and Young Sheldon (2017-present).
Throughout her personal life, Anne Hampton Potts has been married four times. She was first married to Steven Hartley from 1973 to 1978, then to actor Greg Antonacci from 1978 to 1980. Her third marriage was to Scott Senechal from 1981 to 1989, with whom she has one son. In 1990, Potts married her current husband, director/producer James Hayman, and they have two sons together.
