Anil Kapoor
Date of Birth:
Gender: Male
Place of Birth: Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Biography:
Born in 1959 to Surinder and Nirmal, better known as Suchitra Kapoor, Anil grew up speaking Punjabi in the bustling Chawl of Tilak Nagar. As the third child in a family that would eventually grow to five siblings – including an elder brother, Boney, a sister, Reena, and a younger brother, Sanjay – young Anil shared his childhood with his family, often accompanied by his dad, who once served as Shammi Kapoor's secretary.
An introverted child with few friends, Anil found solace in the Bollywood films that were broadcast during Ganesh Maha Utsav each year. He idolized Raj Kapoor and, as a result, developed his own unique acting style, which often saw him compared to the legendary star. Anil even landed a role as a child artist alongside Shashi Kapoor but, unfortunately, the movie, titled "Tu Payal Main Geet," never made it to the big screen.
After completing his studies at O.L.P.S. (Our Lady of Perpetual Succor) School, Anil went on to attend St. Xaviers College in Chembur, where he met future actor Mazhar Khan. However, like many young adults, Anil struggled with balancing his academic and personal life – eventually being asked to leave college in his second year due to a lack of focus.
Undeterred, Anil turned his attention towards acting, first appearing on screen in a character role for the film "Hamhare Tumhare." His big break came when he was cast as the lead in the film "Woh 7 Din," and from there, he never looked back. Over the years, Kapoor has starred in close to a hundred films and has five more in production.
In addition to his acting career, Anil has also produced two movies – "Gandhi My Father" and "Badhaai Ho Badhaai." He's even taken on roles as a casting director and outdoor in charge for the popular TV show "Hum Paanch." However, it was his role in Danny Boyle's Academy Award-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire" that brought Kapoor to international acclaim, earning him both a Screen Actors Guild Award and recognition as one of the most recognized Indian actors globally.
Anil's life took another exciting turn when he met Sunita Bhambhani, a wealthy and fashionable model. The two married in 1984 and now share three children together – daughters Rhea Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, who followed in their father's footsteps to become a successful producer and actress respectively. Their son Harshwardhan Kapoor is also making waves in the film industry. Despite his illustrious career and family life, Anil Kapoor remains grounded and dedicated to his passion for acting, continuing to captivate audiences worldwide with his talent and charm.
