Biography:
Born on January 6th, 1938, Adriano Celentano is a multi-talented Italian artist known as il Molleggiato (the springy one) for his unique dancing style. He has enjoyed great success as a musician, singer, composer, actor, and filmmaker over the course of his illustrious career. With 150 million records sold worldwide, Celentano is one of Italy's best-selling musical artists.
Influenced by Elvis Presley and American actor Jerry Lewis, Celentano began his journey in the music industry with a rock 'n' roll band alongside Giorgio Gaber and Enzo Jannacci. He was later signed to Jolly Records by A&R Executive Ezio Leoni, who co-authored some of his early hits like "24.000 baci", "Il tuo bacio è come un rock", and "Si è spento il Sole".
Celentano made his acting debut in 1959 with the Italian musical film Ragazzi del Juke-Box, directed by Lucio Fulci and featuring music by Ezio Leoni. In 1960, he landed a role as a rock 'n' roll singer in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita.
In addition to his success as an artist and actor, Celentano also founded the Italian record label Clan Celentano in 1962, which launched the careers of several prominent performers including Don Backy, Ola & the Janglers, Ricky Gianco, Katty Line, Gino Santercole, Fred Bongusto, and his wife Claudia Mori.
Celentano and Mori have three children - Rosita, Giacomo, and Rosalinda Celentano. Rosalinda gained international recognition for her role as Satan in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. As a film director, Celentano has frequently cast his wife Claudia Mori, Ornella Muti, and Eleonora Giorgi in his projects.
Throughout his impressive career spanning over five decades, Celentano has sold millions of records, appeared in numerous TV shows and movies, and even developed a distinctive comic genre with his unique walk and facial expressions. His films have consistently been commercial successes, often topping Italian box office rankings. While critics may point to Serafino (1968), directed by Pietro Germi, as his best performance, Celentano has left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment with his talent and creativity.
