The Proposition

Set against the backdrop of 1935 Boston, Father Michael McKinnon embarks on a journey from his homeland of the United Kingdom to immerse himself in a new parish community. However, it's not just any congregation he's joining; he seems hellbent on avoiding two key members, Arthur and Eleanor Barret. As their relationship remains distant and mysterious, the Barrets are navigating their own personal struggle: a desire to have a child that is met with the harsh reality of male sterility in Arthur. Thus, they resort to an arrangement with Harvard law student Roger Martin, who agrees to impregnate Eleanor in return for financial support through her pregnancy and beyond. As fate would have it, this transactional relationship unexpectedly blossoms into love between Roger and Eleanor, further complicating the already intricate lives of these characters.
