In the heart of South America's dense jungles lies a remote mission where Martin and Hazel Quarrier, devout small-town evangelists, have been dispatched by Leslie Huben. As the local Catholic missionaries were massacred before them, there hangs an air of tension and fear amidst this uncharted wilderness. With Leslie more preoccupied with rivalries against his Catholic counterparts than the plight of the natives themselves, Martin grapples to understand the native culture as Hazel's apprehension grows. Amidst their journey, an American pilot named Lewis Moon finds himself adapting to the tribal lifestyle while attracting the attention of Leslie's younger wife, Andy. The delicate interplay between these diverse characters and cultures, along with the encroaching advancement of civilization symbolized by bulldozers, presents a tantalizing question: can they steer clear of disaster in this unfamiliar land?
