In a small Mexican village near the Arizona border, Fidencio Borer, an apothecary, stumbles upon old maps revealing gold mines in the American territory. Seizing this opportunity to secure his future, he embarks on a perilous journey across the frontier. However, Fidencio's path is obstructed by a border guard zealous in performing his duty. He is subsequently captured by a tribe of Apaches, who intend to execute him by fire. Miraculously, Fidencio's medical skills save him from this fate when he soothes the pain of the Great Head Horse, a sacred animal of the tribe. Impressed by his healing abilities, the Apache chief releases him under the condition that he fulfills another cure. Grateful for his newfound freedom and friendship, Fidencio learns to navigate the uncharted territory and ultimately faces the challenges head-on in pursuit of gold and a better life.
