In the early 1970s, Salford's George Khan runs a thriving fish-and-chip shop while adhering to strict Pakistani Muslim traditions. However, as his family - born and raised in Britain with an English mother - begins to identify more strongly with their British heritage, they start pushing against their father's cultural norms. This clash of generations leads to disputes over clothing preferences, food choices, religious practices, and lifestyle expectations within the Khan household, ultimately challenging the very foundations of family unity and tradition.
