Machuca

Set in Santiago, Chile during Salvador Allende's Marxist government, this film chronicles the unlikely friendship between Gonzalo Infante, a student at the prestigious St. Patrick's Catholic prep school, and Pedro Machuca, a working-class child from the slums. To support his leftist ideals, Father McEnroe introduces an initiative at St. Patrick's to allow free admission for some underprivileged kids, which leads to Pedro joining Gonzalo's class. As the two boys form a strong bond, they find themselves participating in protests together, with Pedro becoming integrated into Gonzalo's well-off family and social circle. However, the tumultuous political climate disrupts their connection when General Pinochet's coup d'état overthrows Allende and targets his supporters like McEnroe, threatening to tear apart the fragile unity between these two young friends from different worlds.
