Four friends – one wealthy, one struggling, and a single mother Julie – embark on a seaside vacation to escape their daily lives. As they settle into their holiday routine, complex romantic entanglements begin to surface, involving not only each other but also additional colorful characters: a transsexual individual, a possessive brother, a suave Latin Lover, and an anxious, stressed couple. This intricate web of love and desire is further complicated by the revelation that one friend's daughter has secretly run away to Chicago with her father's employee. The summer draws to a close as all these intertwined lives come together for a memorable final party, leaving them changed in ways they never expected when they first arrived at the beach.
