Phil Weston has spent his life as an unathletic individual, struggling to find success in any sporting endeavour throughout college. It seems his misfortune is now passing on to his ten-year-old son, Sam, who also finds himself floundering in the competitive world of youth sports. When Phil's highly competitive father decides to bench young Sam due to his lacklustre performance, Phil decides to take matters into his own hands and transfer his son to a new team desperately searching for a coach. Seizing this opportunity, Phil steps in as the temporary coach and finds himself butting heads with his father over their shared love of competition.
