Battleground

During World War I, Dr. Stefano Zorzi works at the Exemption Clinic in a bustling Italian city. Here, he tends to wounded soldiers returning from the frontlines while simultaneously combating simulation and self-harm among those seeking exemption from duty via the Military Court. Unbeknownst to Stefano is that his former university friend-turned-rival, Dr. Giulio Farradio, undermines his efforts by intentionally harming soldiers or aiding them in severe self-injury. Complicating matters further are romantic entanglements among the three, with all being drawn to Anna, a steadfast nurse with an unyielding spirit. However, as the 'Spanish' flu pandemic of 1918 sweeps through the city, the delicate balance between love, political machinations, and scientific advancements is shattered, forcing each character to confront new challenges in this tense historical backdrop.
